I have just read and enjoyed "No, I don't want to join a book club", feeling very much in tune with the new granny bits. I had no desire to be a granny + a horror of having to help rear any such offspring. Well he is now 2 months old and I have turned into the original doting grandma, I was sitting in our camper at a service station on the way home last weekend reading the bit about granny boring everyone with how clever her grandson when 3 new photos arrived on my phone. As my husband re-appeared with papers etc from the shop, I was squeaking with excitement, babbling like an idiot that I had received 3 new pics. A lovely read for those of slightly mature years!

I keep looking at the book, wondering should I get it... now I think I will. I am about to be a doting grandmother... already I have a copy of the scan from five months on my desk, and next weekend my younger son and his partner are having a special scan, one of these 3D types, where they are given a DVD and four stills, and guess who's getting one of the stills? I don't intend to be an interfering, or overly-doting granny though.. we will see the new little family about once every three weeks, just enough space between visits for this granny's visits to be seen as special, unlike the other who lives only a short walk away and so who will be very involved. Which leads me to ask of other grannies.... those of you who don't see the child all the time, are you envious of the grandparent who does, and do you have a preference as to what you will be called. Nanny, Nanna, or Granny....or maybe an alternative. I love the Welsh word for Granny myself.
