I am thinking of making some sewing kits for Christmas [Page 16. CL. Sept.2006]. I seem to remember from my distant youth that needles must be kept in certain materials so as not to rust. Is it wool, would felt or old white blanket do as needle case page? Help please.

I think that traditionally those materials were used, possibly because unheated houses were damp, but I wouldn't have thought that there was a problem these days, and possibly the needles are better? Fran.

My needlecase (made by my daughter at school years ago ) is lined with some sort of brushed cotton and that's what the needels are in.

i still have my home made needle case.i made when i was at school. felt outer case and brushed cottan inner case. i would never leave a needle pushed through white cotton for to much length of time.especially in my office where i leave my sewing stuff.cus i dont put the heater on in there.
