If you begin reading a book do you always finish it or if you can't get into it cast it aside. I find once I start even if this happens I plod on hoping it will get better as the story goes. Often it does'nt but I don't give in untill the last page has been read. Anyone else as daft as me .xx

I do sometimes give up after struggling for a while. Usually tell myself that reading should be an enjoyable pastime and not a chore:)

I think i have finished every book i have started.I am much to nosey not to finish.I do tend to only read books i am interested in reading at the outset.I think Portrait of a lady was my hardest read.

I used to feel I had to - throwback to school/university but over the last couple of years I have decided that I will give a book my best shot, but if I really don't like it, well, life is too short and there are so many books to be read! Occasionally I will pick up a book previously rejected and like it - I think it can also depend on your mood and circumstances at the time.

If the first chapter doesn't interest me, I would rather give it up.

No I don't if I find a book is a waste of time I just drop it. Recently I have even taken to writing to an author for I found her book so incredibly badly researched that it really made me cross.+ some of the characters changed name half way through the book!!!!
The book was a kind of family saga and it played in my home town . For example she mentioned buildings in the 1920's that were not built before 1948 also she made a 100 year old granny walk a 30 km walk on her way to go shopping. Further she cited a law that wasn't even made by the time . All things and facts that can be easily checked on the internet these days.

Well done Ivy! That sort of thing can drive you mad - I even get cross at wrong use of words, inaccurate French or German (you can take the woman out of the school, but ......) or factual inaccuracies. I have once written to publishers but got no response.

I actually got a response from the author thanking me for being an observant reader ... (blabla...) but I sold the books on an internet market place because they really annoyed me!

That is so bad to print incorrect information as after all we all hope to learn something from what we read and if it is wrong what good is that ? I thought books were checked for this type of thing .x

If I can't get into a book after a couple of chapters I leave it and move to something more interesting. I once got half way through an Alan Titchmarsh novel then threw it in the bin.

I used to think I should finish a book even if I was not enjoying it. But Cancer changed that habit and now if I can't get into it after a few chapters it is on to the next one. I do agree though it can depend on your mood. My brother seems to manage to have several on the go - maybe - it is so that he can adapt his reading to his mood.
