I have just finished reading a book "Rabbit Stew And A Penny Or Two"by Maggie Smith- Bendell It is a story written about a family of Romany Gypsy's. It is a very eye opening story about their lives travelling around Somerset in the 50's. They are a very close knit community caring and hard working people and I have enjoyed reading it .

I am reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. It is about the black woman whose cells have been multiplied to be used for medical research. They are called Hela cells and were taken from a tumour in her cervix. It is very revealing about the state of the US nation and the way they treated their black citizens. My son gave it to me to read and I initially thought it would be hard going but I'm finding it fascinating

I've just finished "Whispers on the Water" By Audrey Howard. It's about a young girl of 14 who had to take over her father's business as her brother died when the Titanic went down. Also how she had to cope with lots of things during WWI and the impact it had on her life.

I have just finished Catherine Cookson - Bondage of love and have started Josephine Cox's The Guilded Cage. I am getting fed up of reading about miserable people and depressing times and fancy something happy and uplifting.

I am reading "Under a Blood Red Sky" about the hardships during 1930's in Russia - a recommended read. Sorry DF, but I have learnt a lot and will return to happier books next.

I haven't done a lot of reading lately but while travelling to Dublin read another book by Jostein Gaarder (the author of Sophie's world). It could maybe be translated into "Girl with oranges". It's a very good read.

I am reading a Josephine Cox as well at the moment D F "More Than Riches" almost finished it a very good book. Think my next one is going to be "Nurse On Call" by Edith Cotterill a true story of a 1950s district nurse. I picked this one up at the weekend and like a bit of variety.

I'm reading "A Day like Today" by Nicola Thorne. Quite in teresting actually - it's about a woman who was in quite a bad car accident and how she has to build a life with injuries she sustained in this horrific accident. How the neighbours, certain friends and her children react to this, how they try to help, and how previous colleagues and friends suddenly ignore her, for some reason which I haven't got to yet. I'm only about halfway through.
