What do you know about this relating to sunshine and do you take it?

No I don't take it but I do make sure I get some time outside every day. Even when it's cloudy there is probably still enough light to help your Vitamin D production. Thing is not to always wear a sun block!

I have to go with Redstart here I try not to take any Vitamin products as I feel I get enough through my food, plus if you take more then you should it just comes out the other end (so to speak)! then I feel it is a waste of money. As for Vitamin D as Redstart said try and get out a bit during the day and I as I know you do sheddie as you walk Jess so you are proberly still getting your dosage of Vitamin D.

I think you need around 4 hours of direct contact with daylight to produce enough Vit D, although I could be wrong!

I don't bother to take any supplements, if I feel a bit rotten I go out and see the hens or go for a walk with Rich. I think that's the best way to get your daily dose of Vit D :)

vitamin d works in conjunction with calcium.deficiency in childhood causes rickets.i dont know anything about brittle bone disease except you need to build strong bones before a certain age as in old age the body doesn't lay down the calcium so easy.so i suppose it makes sense we need plenty of calcium and vit d if we want to protect ourselves from brittle bone.i am not sure if there is hereditory links with this disease.

It is extremely important to expose ourselves to enough daylight every day. Even when we cannot see the sun, the light releases chemicals in our brains giving us energy to be active during daylight hours. Problems arise when people work at night or are unable to get out of their home. It is far more complex than recieving enough Vit D for physical health. Daylight hours give us a sense of wellbeing, and lack of it can do the opposite, even cause depression in the long run. So girls, even when it's raining, put on your mac and wellies and soak up that natural light!!!
