I was talking to my sister about menopausal symptons.Especially depression and tiredness. She said her daughter told her about vitamin B complex. She tried it and within 2 weeks all her symptons had gone.I googled vitamin B Complex.I was amazed.I have studied natural helath for years.I knew vit bs strengthen the nervous system.I did not know how important they are for a hundred other things especially depression.Digestion, nerves, hormones &skin etc. it makes fascinating reading.I know now why D.F calls menopace the happy pills. They have a vitamin B complex added.Well worth a read ladis. If you google Vitamin B complex and read 5 and 7 wrtitngs you will be amazed.

Thats the thing fran i have a brilliant diet .Yet whilst on menopace i was so much better.then i stopped having a full tablet due to my wee being yellow.then my low moods came back.I now realise why so i am on full b complex and watching how things go.I have also realised a lot of my mum in laws problems are due to being deficient in vit b 12.

I took B6, I think it was some years ago before I started the menopause and it was helpful. However we need to be careful about supplements - some you excrete if you have enough already and some can acatually be harmful if you don't need them. With a good well-balanced diet we shuld not need many supplements, and vitamins from food are generally considered better than supplements unless you actually suffer from a medically diagnosed deficiency - just saying, be careful!

I have looked into it souter the b vits are mostly water soluble so we just excrete what we dont need.No harm at all. When i read the list of symptons of b12 deficiency it was like reading a list of my mum in laws symptons.Old age being one cause of deficiency, drinking to much alcohol another.I knew we can make B vits in our bowels from good bacteria. If our bowels are unhealthy which is a big thing in the west with our western diet.We dont just struggle to make b vits .The saying in the naturopathic world is its not what you eat but what you digest and utilise that feeds your body.Sadly many of us dont digest and utilise a lot of the nutrients. That is if we are eating good healthy food to start with.Taking into consideration packaged foods and transit and storage of fresh foods. When i read that a b complex is the best anti depressant you can take i was amazed. It explained that anti depressants cause more strain to your liver ,that st johns wort is better as it works more naturally. But B vits dont just deal with the symptons it deals with the cause.I just think sometimes we suffer and yet there are natural answers out there. With our diets yes we should be getting all the nutrients .But how many of us are.For a start stress depletes nutrients.Eating when stressed, not chewing your food, not enough digestive enzymes due to age .Eating the wrong foods pumped with chemicals of all sorts.Drinking to much, alcohol. So many meats and dairy products are pumped with anti biotics and hormones. All these things stop our bodies digesting and utilising the nutrients.

Good Fran.some people have weaknesses like me having irritable bowel for about 10 years.Bought on by candida albicans overgrowth. This weakens your whole system and if i didnt do everything right health wise i would be in a very bad way health wise.I think that is why this menopause affects some people worse than others. Some of us poor souls just have it against us even tho like me i live an extremely healthy life style. As a child i also was bedridden for about 6 weeks with liver infection. This knocked me back from the start.I also was bedridden with scarletina.I was a very healthy child i just had it against me .So now i do everything i can to be healthy and strong naturally.

I have Pernicious Anaemia which means that I am minus something called the intrinsic factor and I am not able to store vitamin B12 so I have a Neo Cytamen (B12)injection every 3 months which keeps it topped up,this will go on for the rest of my life, it is likely to be tied up with Coeliac Disease and was not found until that was diagnosed.Perhaps I am the lucky one since B12 is always in good supply in my system now.

Eleanor has your mother-in-law had a blood test to see if she is deficient in B12?

she has had blood tests and they have put her on folic acid. The thing she has nearly all the symptoms of b12 deficiency.I am only going to put her on a b complex. My daughter told me she had read an article on dementia a while back. The need for extra b vitamins especially folic acid was top of the list.i am still on my menopace.
