During the next couple of weeks shall we do our own test of signwritten bags we buy things in, fold them up and then look back at each one and see if we have been happy with our purchase at that particular shop and did we get good value. ie:- the bodyshop,M&S, Harrods etc. After all while we are carrying their bag we are advertising what we are like as people. Sometimes I even amaze myself with my brill ideas!!

That implies that I have to go shopping! Oh no! Brill though the idea is, I don't get many carrier bags, just off the market and they are plain white. Mostly I take my own bags, and turn down the plastic ones whenever possible. Fran.

Thought you may be Christmas shopping, but it will be far nicer on a market.

same here sheddy i take my own.but whilst christmas shopping.if i go in a posh shop i get a bag.cus some of the fancy ones are quite trendy. its mostly the shops for young ones do lovely bags. monsoon ,oasis etc. if i go with daughter i make her take her stuff out when she gets home so i can have the bags. you know in france. they will fancy wrap such a lot of things.even cheap gifts.my daughter bought a book and they even offered to gift wrap it.by gift wrapping i mean paper and cute decorations. by the way sheddy do you shop at harrods.

Christmas shopping? In October? No, our market is very poor now, I just patronise the huge fruit& veg stall. It's owned by Pakistanis, and they have a lot of stuff that their own people want as well as the usual, so I enjoy trying a few different things, plus bunches of fresh herbs, mint, coriander, stuff we don't know. In the summer we had mangoes, now there are boxes of fresh dates. Fran.

I try to take all my own reusable bags. Our local Tesco stopped handing out free carriers yesterday - Hurrah! Is it a national thing does anyone know?

We always take our own bags wherever we shop, the boot of the car is littered with them! but I must admit if I go somewhere really upmarket, I keep the bags for ages,I even have a Harrods bag from when I lived in London ,and that was 22 years ago!! it's lasted well.

i went to town.there were no good sales last week.so this week i just took my jute bag. well debenhams were have a great sale. i bought loads of lovely clothes for grandsons birthdays next year.i am very ritualistic.they have to have clothes as well as toys.no sweets. any way i ended up with a massive debenhams bag. the clothes were all half price.so i felt debenhams deserved a bit of free advertising.

Just to add some extra to the carrier bag subject, I found a Tesco bag (with a duster or something in it) that had fallen down the side of the washer in my back porch. When I tried to pull it out it disintegrated into very small flakes, so they obviously are using biodegrading bags. It had probably been there for some time, and probably wasn't new, so may have been 3 or 4 years old. Fran.

I have 2 Harrods bags! Feel quite posh when using them! Hubby bought one at duty free shop at Heathrow. Other one is more a plastic kid of bag.

We pay for our carrier bags at any shop. I just use them over and over again. Especially at the grocery store. Most of the bags we got in UK I still have. Cannot throw it out. Memories, oh memories! They're all neatly folded, and tucked away in my linen cupboard.

I really meant your more up market bags with names in gold or such like. I particularly have quite a lot of Thorntons bags, but I forget what I bought in them because as you all know I don't eat chocolate - I'm sure my nose has got a bit longer!
