New Sewing Machine

My mother brought me a new sewing machine for Christmas as I thought I would take it up as another craft, but I have not sewn since my school days which I hasten to add is a very long time ago. Does anyone have any good tips on how to get started and what would be the easiest thing to strat to learn? :confused:

My advice would be to arm yourself with a piece of scrap fabric, medium weight cotton is good (like an old shirt), a reel of suitable thread for machines, and then read the handbook, working your way through the basics, trying things out. Once you've done that, try making a table runner or place mats. I'm sure once you start it'll all come back to you.
