We've just watched an insert on Deutsche Welle on deforestation in amongst Finland and Indonesia. They mentioned that the forest floor in Indonesia is about 6.1 metres deep compacted with leaves, organic material over centuries. At this point is very healthy as it is the coal of tomorrow The forest in Finland which is the world's biggest paper supplier, the opposite actually happens. The forest can't supply fodder for the animals as the trees are being cut down at alarming speed for paper production.
