Has anyone perhaps read any of this author's books? I've never read he books, but came across "A Spell of Swallows" - quite a disturbing book really but I also couldn't put it down. The upsetting part for me was more the story behind the thoughts and words.
Anyone perhaps read this book?

Hi Crocus,I have read two of her books,"The Flowers of the Field" about three girls who are 'the flowers',and the different things which befall them during the ...I think it was .....first world war,it could have been the second! and the other one is "A Flower That's free" that is also quite exciting as far as I remember, but I have to say ,it is some time since I read either of them. She wrote one which I think is called "An Imperfect Lady" something like that ,and it was mostly about lesbian relationships as far as I recall,I wasn't much struck on that one.
I must try and get hold of the one you mention,I guess the library will have it.

Hi Kate, on the back cover of the book it's mentioned that the main character in the book, John Ashe, also features in two other novels, "Swan Music" and "The Nightingale's Nest". I get the impression that by reading those first before "A Spell of Swallows", will allow readers to understand and learn the full story of the events that moulded this Ashe character. So perhaps you should try to get hold of those first? I couldn't put the book down, wanting to know what's going to happen, but at the same time it was quite disturbing.

I can't read when I'm on holiday for some reason, perhaps it has something to with our concentration levels? It might have something with the fact that your mind was occupied in a different and difficult way the last 2 and half months or so Kate. XX
