Sometime ago I posted a picture of a bracelet knitted from wire and bugle beads, now I have the set with this choker necklace.

Just looked it up - it is an interjection expressing surprise or excitement.

That's a lovely set, Gen. Did you make it, or someone else? I have tried French knitting with thin sterling silver wire but it gets too stiff, as the more you work it the more it hardens. I have seen soft enamel wire for sale which should do the job. I like the way that the bugle beads have been woven into the wire as it is made. I bet it looks really nice on, and reminds me of 1920s flapper jewellery.

It is called Crazy Wire (there is a website), 3mm, with the beads threaded on before I knitted it in a strip on size 10 needles, then rolled it. I got the idea from the Sewing for Pleasure show at the NEC.

3mm wire is quite chunky, Gen, and amazing that it is so flexible. I have seen knitted necklaces in coloured thread, but your's looks better because it is stiffer. I'll have a look at the website.

It is thin, I think it might be 0.3mm.

That sounds more like it, Gen. I was getting a bit hot and bothered there thinking my arms were weaker than I thought! I tried knitting with silver wire that was stretched and reduced to .3mm, but after two rows it stiffened up too much. Then it would have to be heated to make it supple again and re-threaded on to the pins. It was just too much work. Your's looks really good though.

I'm also useful, the WI is saving money on Tuesday, instead of paying for a speaker I have been asked to put on a display and talk about it.

That will keep the programme budget down for the year Gen! I have seen people knitting with wire and beads but nothing as tasteful as yours, is it hard on the hands

Not really, Pippa, the only thing is you can't wrap it round your finger to get the tension, no dropped stitches though.

Well the Dutch ask to be damned by God, so why should the British not ask to be blinded by God at least they would not have to see the world go down the drain..

These old saying are fascinating when you get to their roots, aren't the? I wonder what happened to make the Dutch and British coin those phrases?
