i was wondering who is excitedely planning their summer holiday.or do you even bother going on a proper holiday.when my hubby was young his dad would never take him on holiday.his mum took him twice.so every year he has always made sure we go on holiday since we got married.except one year.we watched all the people going on holiday down our street and we really regretted not going.so whose got some exciting plans ahead.who thinks its not worth all the hassle.i am booked up for the longest hols i have ever had.hubby has agreed to 17 days in France for our summer hols.so he's working hard to earn the money to enjoy it.

We have always suffered from not being able to take much time off work at the same time, eleanor. My OH has always worked in jobs where he is busiest in summer, and I have always worked in ones that roughly follow the school year, so can only take time off during the summer. Usually we manage one week per year of time off together and a few days at Christmas / New Year, so not really long enough for a proper holiday! We do manage to go on some long weekends away though, and we enjoy that. Mostly, in past years, we have had to spend every weekend renovating our house. Now that I am (temporarily?) self-employed and we live in a rented house we have more time for leisure activities. We would like to go on a big holiday to India or New Zealand, but discovered that OH's employer doesn't allow staff to take more than two weeks holiday concurrently, or extend holiday through unpaid leave. We would want at least three weeks to make the most of that type of holiday, I think.

We used to go on a proper holiday during December as it's our summer holiday and usually 5-6 weeks. When the boys were young we usually went camping in the caravan not far from where we live now, but since we live here now we ventured out to different caravan parks further afield. But for the last 3-4 years we don't actually go on long holidays anymore as the boys rather wanted to be with their friends. The last time we were on a proper holiday was during December 2007, when we visited the UK for two weeks. x

Yes, we have proper holidays but I don't like to book them to early, only three or four months before. I know some people book them a year in advance. I like going to different places but don't like being away from home for long so don't get excited about it. We don't go abroad very often as we really like this country, enough to put up with the weather.

We've had a lot of holidays abroad and I have been to most places I would like to see, so now we stick to this country. Holidays are now going to be difficult as we are dog sitting as our son has to travel quite a distance to his new job and finds it difficult to look after him.
