I live in Switzerland , in the country, and can't help noticing certain similarities with the UK. As we drive twowards Lucerne we see "Farmers demand a fair price for milk" posters, this time the bid bad wolf is not the supermarkets (well, not only) but the big cheese-making company.

So we might have better weather, be able to grow grapes, have more organic produce, have an environmentally-friendly government - but we have the same farming problems. Sad eh?

Earlier this year we hada campaign from our local ( well nearly local) organic dairy asking 5 ct extra for each liter of milk in order to pay farmers a decent price. If you chose not to pay the 5 ct extra you got the same milk in a different coloured carton. Quite a number of people were so sensitive on that matter that they bought the blue carton (+5ct) now the dairy put the 5 ct on all milk and noone complained.

Hey, ivy, what a good idea. I wonder if that would work in the UK? Maybe it would, as in our staff room at work it has got to the stage where people make up excuses if they are seen with Nescafe coffee, or if they buy the cheap tea at the coffee bar rather than ask for Fair Trade. I think that people can be sensitive about buying supermarket own label products, but that is maybe down to not wanting to advertise that they are on a low income rather than that they are mean or unenlightened.
