I read in the weekend paper about Carmen Herrera, a woman artist who has become a famous at the age of 94. She has been an artist all of her life and was lucky that when she married her husband had a decently paid job and she was able to concentrate soley on her Art, refining and perfecting her style. Despite her geometric paintings being part of exhibitions she only sold her first ones when she was aged 89. Following this, a big demand for her work has developed and now her paintings are exhibited and sold all over the world. It only goes to show that you are never too old for fame and fortune, and that perseverance can pay off, eventually. Good for her, I say!

It's amazing and I hope she enjoys her success, even it being quite late in her life.

That is brilliant to achieve that at her age . What a legacy to leave for her family.

She didn't have children, dinger, istead choosing to focus all her energies on her art. She will be leaving a legacy to the world though, as now she is being lauded as a significant innovator in her style of art and one of the most overlooked early artists. I hope that I am able to do something as momentous when I am elderly, although she didn't set out to be so.

I feel a picture coming on. I wish I could paint, it is one of a few things I would like to be good at, but alas.
I have just googled her and it is a fascinating story.

This is similar to the American born Grandma Moses. She was a farmer's wife in New York State and had sveral children but some died. She painted what's termed as niave folk art. These are pictures of rural scenes. I have one of her paintings on fabric. She only became famous in her 80's or 90's. I think she lived to over 100 years!

Geometric Art isn't my scene either, eleanor, but there is no doubt that this artist is very good at it. I think that you can appreciate Art even if it isn't the style that you might have on your wall. I'll have to look up Grandma Moses, sunflower. I just think that it only goes to show that great things can be achieved later in life and if you persevere.

What role models!
They say you are never too old to learn and variety is the spice of life.
My Mum is my role model at 87 and is onto her killer soduko.

My previous neighbour is a good role model, as she is 87 and teaches Tai Chi and runs a programme of intellectual discussions in the village hall. She is a real livewire, and there is no keeping her in. Last year during the snow and ice OH and I dug and gritted our way across the road to check that she was OK and had everything that she needed, only to find a note on her door saying that if anyone is looking for her she had gone away on a cycling holiday in North Africa! I know that I will never be as fit as that when I am her age, but I would like to.
