Wow Gentian I love it. I was supposed to go on a day workshop for felt pictures but the woman never got back to us. Now I have seen yours I will look for another workshop.

I'm quite taken with it. I started it after joining a group in our U3A, you could try there DF. I have just made some long felt beads like Jazz makes and hope to have new earrings when they are dry.

I already have all the info for our local U3A Gentian and am joining in February. I hope they do felt pictures there.

That's a lovely picture gen. Felt isn't a medium I've ever particularly used.

My U3A has a Creative Textiles group, we are meeting tomorrow and I really enjoy the imput from the group leader and the other members.

That's great, Gentian. I particularly like the embroidery on top of the felt, and the cheery sense of movement. Did you leave the felt batt unfelted to form the base and then felt and embroider onto it? I'm looking forward to being old enough for U3A, is it only for over 50s? I used to work for the WEA which ran a whole range of courses. I have just looked on their wesbite and in one area there is a course on Sufragette Jewellery and another on fabric origami, not in my area though.

Yes, Jazz. The base was felt made with soap and water, and was from a fleece my friend gave me, and the colours (merino wool) were added with a felting needle.

Oh I see, Gen, it looks like the backing is unfelted as it is very thick. I thought that you had been making a bit of a risky experiment! You are very good with the felting needles. I bought a set of very fine needles, and some tape to protect my fingers, from the K&S Show. I have tried it with thicker needles which worked quite well, but I am hoping to be able to use the fine ones to do some needle felting to my jewellery designs. Keep going, you have a lovely eye for detail.

Gen. Your felt picture is beautiful!! Have you done others? There is potential there for a whole range isn't there? You could have the country ones ... then some pastelly blues and peppermints with beach huts against the sea!

Don't tempt me Seashore. I have another one in mind, but this is one I did last year, some of you amy have seen it before, and a cushion made from the same fleece.

Oh My Goodness! These are beautiful! Seriously, do you sell them? Or do you take commissions?
Gentian, I know nothing about felting. Is it touch and go just how the picture turns out, or could you felt a scene from some one's window (a country scene for instance)?

Well. I think I need to learn that. But first have to finish some of my ufos.

I don't sell them SS, but I do use them in my Creative Textile talks that I do from time to time. I think my next picture is going to be anenomes, but it is only an idea at the moment.

There is a massive wealth of talent on RM - you are such clever ladies and so artistic - if I had a hat on I would take it off to you, what I have seen is simply lovely!
