The last photo on my UK calendar (December) is an awesome photo of Killington Lake in Cumbria. Deep-blue water, green trees with a back drop of snow-covered mountains and blue skies. It's a very serene scene, almost as if it's the only place on earth. Truly stunning.

You Cumbrian girls, where is Killington Lake and have you paid a visit to this beautiful place? :) xxxxx

I am not sure where it is at all, crocus, as I have never heard of it. It sounds lovely from your description, though, so I will be looking out for it.

Hi Jazz, I could find this:

Apparently it's man made lake and close to Kendal.

Killington Lake is visible from the M6 on the eastern side, not far from Kendal. There is a motorway services there on the southbound, and you can sit and look at the lake. But don't use those services, you need to have 'been' at Westmorland services just before, which has a lovely farm shop and is very 'green'.

Thanks Fran, I know where it is now! I have seen that lake, and been to Westmorland Services for a stop at the farm shop et al a couple of times. I didn't know that it was called Killington Lake, though.

The services are called Killington. They are only on the southbound side, as Burton are on the northbound.

I too know it from the many many times I used to drive up the M6 to my parents in Scotland. Tebay was my favourite stop on the way north and it would be soup and a roll at Killington Lake on the way south. The view is lovely and you can mentally get away from the motorway for a break on a long drive! The northbound stop is and always has been the best though. Been going to Tebay for over 20 years since it was a tiny family run service station with home made scones. On a nice day we used to sit out on the grass overlooking ths small lake there and feed the ducks or just, as the kids say, "chill".
