I bought a slow cooker about 10 years ago and only used it once and it didn't work properly, I think I had it on the low setting instead of high. Anyway I got it out this weekend and tried it with success. I put a load of vegetables and some stewing meat in and 6 hours later we had a lovely meal. I have just been through the 'recipe book' as I thought there were some one pot recipes but I couldn't find any. So if any of you have any recipes I can do in the slow cooker and forget about it for a few hours I would appreciate it. This is my kind of cooking and I can't understand why I didn't do it sooner.

Hi DF, in the heading "Food and Drink" you put in a thread about slow cookers "slow cooker - help wanted" - perhaps you want to have a look there? XX

I checked out the web site Crocus and there were some good recipes. I love the slow cooker and can't believe I haven't been using it all these years. I am experimenting with different meats, veg and seasonings and we are having some good healthy meals. I like preparing the meal in the morning instead of the evening when I am tired and want to relax so end up having a ready meal. The pot I use holds enough for two meals for two of us so only have to do it every other day and it is more tasty the next day.

Oh that's good to hear DF. Believe it or not, but I don't have slow cooker and everybody always tell me to get one - so perhaps I should. My friend always brings her slow cooker with when they come for a visit and it's actually very convenient. I really think I should make a plan about getting one. XX

I have used one in the past but the stew did not thicken up like it does in the oven, have you found this?

The first time I used it I put oxo's in and it didn't, the next time I used oxos and bisto also a spoonful of mustard and it was thicker without being too thick. My next experiment is with chicken breasts and a chasseur mix.
