Yesterday I bought a women's magazine and I noticed an article on a lady, Heleen de Haas who understands the art of calligraphy. I can't give you a link to the magazine as it's in Afrikaans, but I googled her name and here's a link if those of you who are interested in this beautiful art form want to have a look.

Beautiful, crocus. I like the look of it, but broke my elbow years ago and now my handwriting is very scruffy so I don't think that I could manage calligraphy. There is a pen shop in Kendal that sells calligraphy pens and paper that often has workshops on Saturdays.

Sorry Eleanor, I actually forgot to mention click on the square. Click on all the other little squares once you're in, there's a lot to see actually. xxx

I too have the pens E and do dabble a bit. When I was teaching, at first I had terrible handwriting and felt unable to comment on pupils attempts on their report, so I taught myself Chancery Script and now use it quite often.

i think just little hints from calligraphy help.like sweeping your pen in one direction.taking your pen off after downward stroke of r and then looping the curved bit in a seperate stroke.there is so much more decoration of your writing you can do with calligraphy.

There's a picture of her work in the magazine I bought and it's amazing what can be done with a calligraphy pen.

Very interesting Crocus. I recently bought a calligraphy pen set with different sized nibs and different coloured ink cartridges but everytime I use it my fingers get covered in ink so gave up on it. I like to see nice writting and especially calligraphy.

Hi DF, it makes a card or whatever so more special I think - calligraphy is something I haven't tried yet, although I like it a lot. I think one must have a lot of patience and steady hand perhaps? xx

Calligraphy is a wonderful art and can really add value to your craft in terms of personalising your products or making nice proifessional lokking signs. I have a wonderfull calligraphy book with so many superb examples of this ancient art.

Hi Hedgehog! Nice to see you on site! Hope you are well?

I would like to do calligraphy, but wonder whether I will have the patience. x
