Hi all! I thought that you might like to see the results of International Day of Felt that was held on 3rd October 2009. The idea was that all over the world on the same day people would make felt in the colours yellow through to red, to promote the craft of felting. The felting group that I belong to held a day of felting at our tutor's house near Windermere and members of the public could drop in all day long and learn how to make a piece of felt and add it to our installation - which was wrapping a tree in felt. Have a look on www.feltunited.com. Go to Exhibition 2009 and a small piece of our project is 3rd along in the 3rd row. I made the sparkly leaf hanging at the bottom.

Next year it is on 2 October in blue shades, so look out for any local events in your area.

Oh what I good idea Jazz, and your sparkly leaf is so pretty! Especially against the backdrop. Thanks for telling us about it, I think the blue colours of next year will be just as lovely. Do you have something in your mind already for the exhibition? xx

What an interesting thing to do. Some were a bit weird but most were great. I loved Netherlands flowers on the bush and Argentinas doll.

It is amazing what you can make with a bit of wool and lots soap and water, isn't it? And these are just a small section of what is possible. I love making felt, as it is such good fun and I think that a lot of what people have made reflects that. My next task is to make a big wall-hanging for my friend's house in Spain. She is into geology, and limestone is quarried in the area, so I am going to design it based on a cross section through a piece of limestone, and include actual pieces of real limestone which is also found near here. I'll try to put a photo on RM when I have finished it to show you what I have done. If you would like to see a different technique have a look at www.focusonfelt.co.uk. This work is by felt artist Andrea Hunter. I have one of her works of two hares running on my wall.
