Hi Crocus,I haven't heard of them either but I found this video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnaMPI0muB8 but it doesn't explain what is different about them.

I found an article where a lot were clubbed to death in Denmark

I was forwarded an email this morning by a friend on the culling of these dolphins in Denmark which apparently is occuring on the Faroe Islands for hundreds of years and are considered by Islanders to be an important part of their social culture.
I thought maybe some of you might be aware of this, whether it's the truth because sometimes emails like these can be a hoax, although it seems to be true according to hoax-slayer and the photos attached. I'm going to give you a link to this, but be prepared.

It's an absolutely horrifying habit, (I can't find strong enough words really) and can't think that people somehow find it in their minds and hearts to do this.

I think it is true as I saw a tv programme about it a few years ago. Greenpeace were trying to get it stopped. They weren't killing them to eat but because they enjoyed killing them as they had done it for generations. I didn't know they were called calderon dolphins.

It really shocked me this morning to be quite honest. Just think the fear of those poor dolphins. I hope Greenpeace could get it to stop. One must actually try and find out.

I didn't get the info in an email, I used google and found a news site, so I think it is true.

The link above is what was in the email I received too. I think it's really horrendous and I hope these people could be stopped by Greenpeace. Problem is, it seems like a traditional habit and how do you stop that?

When I googled it,I saw many websites telling of the culling of these dolphins, so it is true Crocus, unfortunately ;I hope it can be stopped, the mindless slaughter of these lovely creatures.

This is truley horrible, crocus, and for a country known for its civilisation and sophistication too! I can't imagine how anyone would want to kill another creature just for pleasure. Interesting that the photos showed mainly young men doing the killing and chopping, you would have thought that current generations of men would have learnt to be more in touch with their gentler side by now.

Hi Jazz, it's horrible isnt?! I was so shocked when I received this info via a forwarded email, I just sat here and couldn't move. I also noticed the young men taking part in this tradition and I wonder whether tradition is the reason these young men do take part in this? Probably it's so part of them, having seen this from a young age that they can't distance them from it? All I know it's horrific and as you say, for a country like Denmark, one didn't expect this to still happen in this day and age. Surely they must be aware of animal rights organisations etc.?
