My husbands legs are so bad now with Arthritis he has been told today he must start using two walking sticks as it is deforming his hip how he is limping. he has also got to now see a Vascular surgeon one of his legs is swollen huge and is just solid so this has got to be checked out before he can be operated on .Always something to worry about it seems.

That's sad Dinger, but keep him moving all you can. My OH has vascular excema (sp) and night and morning uses a cream to soften the skin and prevent ulcers.
Growing old aint fun!

Oh Dinger I am so sorry,My OH suffers badly with arthritis everywhere so I know just what your OH is going through. He may well rebel against using two sticks, but he would be wise to follow the good advise even though I bet he doesn't want to ;is he having his knees operated on? I do hope the swelling will go down and things will improve for him ,let us know how he goes on.

As the others say, must keep moving. The awful thing is that sticks can make you FEEL old. Two years ago daughter had a knee op and I went to B'ham on the train to take her one of OH's sticks. Easiest way was to "use" it and everyone was so nice and kind to "the old dear" that I felt thoroughly demoralised by the time I got there! However, sticks do give a warning to people around you not to jostle or catch you off balance so do encourage him to use them. Why not get him something dashing with a fancy (if I can use the word) knob?

Oh! Poor OH and poor you having to be there for him as it is not easy for the person to come to terms with. It is the mental adjustment as much as the physical isn't it?

I remember when I worked at the NT so many would come in with their 'walking poles' to walk around the gardens. I would ask if they were good and the reply would be it is not as bad as having to use accept using a walking stick. Not sure if that would be enough support for your OH but would it be worth asking?

Hopefully, if he can get sorted and prepared for an op it would make life easier for him. When you talk to people who have the knees and hip ops they have said how marvellous it is what they can do now.

Give him a big hug from me!

Have a good day Dinger if you can and your family are so lucky to have you. xx

I see quite a few people on these scooters and they all seem to like it a lot. Maybe if you told your OH he would look silly using one then he would tell you that it was for him to decide and go and try one. (Sorry, but sometimes you have to tell men the opposite of what you really think. They want it to be their own decision)
