We got the keys today to the house that we are moving into, and everything inside is brand new and squeaky clean, except for a hot iron imprint right in the centre of the new, cream, sittingroom carpet! It will be covered up with our sofa, but who would do such a thing? As far as we are aware, no-one has lived in the house for a few months and the owners have just had the interior redesigned, and it is clear that new carpets have been laid throughout the house. A cleaner was, apparently, there this morning but the house is unfurnished so why she would have used an iron on the sittingroom carpet is a bit beyond me. Any ideas?

Did the owner see this already? Otherwise I would show it to him/write him a letter with photo just so you won't have to pay for a new carpet when you move out.

That is quite strange Jazz? I think BW's of a photo is a very good idea. Is it possible to let the agent know of this? Surely they would know about it, so perhaps you could just contact them to come and have a look too? xxx

I have just phoned the agent and she said that she had been to the house this morning and had noticed it. Her only comment was that I would be surprised what some houses reveal! The inventory that they gave us includes photos of each of the rooms, and the iron mark is visible, but just looking like a stain on the carpet. We agreed that I would circle the 'stain' and write what it was next to it and then sign the inventory, so that there is a record. Other than that the house is very nice.

Oh, well as long as they are aware of it and don't blame you, it's fine. I'm all excited for you and OH Jazz, how's the packing going? Shout if you need help, I'll be there in a jiffy! xxx

If only you could be, crocus. An RM packing party is just the thing that I need to help get it done! OH is working all this week - most evenings too - so I am left to do it, and feel that I am making little progress... I guess that, like everything else, it will all get done in time for our removal on Friday.

Jazz
Just think this may be the last time you have to go all through this.
You can look forward to putting your feet up when you have moved in.

A RM packing party is not at all a bad idea! I'm sure thought that by Friday everything will be packed and ready to be moved. Best wishes though Jazz, it's hard work. Drink lots of Rooibos Tea! xxx

Thanks all. I managed to briefly get back on line while doing the final cleaning of the previous house. Then it has taken 7 days for Virgin to reconnect us! Anyway, I am looking forward to catching up with you all.
The move went very smoothly and the removal company had just done a job moving a university library into another building, so all our books were small fry to them! The weather was very hot on the day of the move and they were a lovely, friendly trio who worked very hard, so overall it was a pleasant day. We are really enjoying living in this house so far. It is a big change for us, as we generally go for much more traditional houses, but this one is a 1950s dormer bungalow and all of the inside is brand new and lovely and light.
The size and shape of this house suits us very well, and we love having an upstairs sitting room. We look out onto broadleaf woods on the hills and open fields and it is just the time of year for it as the leaves are turning and there seems to be quite a lot of wildlife around, including an owl who lives in our garden. The garden is a more manageable size than the last one and although it does have quite a few mature plants and trees the owners aren't too precious about it, so I can grow some veg and herbs here. There is a line of the horrible leylandii trees between this house and the neighbour's, but they don't shadow anything and the owners like them! I am looking forward to getting out and about a bit now that we have almost unpacked.
