Hi all! Well, I have just confirmed our two nights in the quirky La Rosa hotel in Whitby next week. I first read about it in CL magazine a couple of years ago. We are going to have one night in the Lewis room and one night in the Saloon cowgirl room, which has a huge wooden bath. I am so excited about it as it seems a really NTN hotel with themed rooms and a breakfast picnic brought to your door. Have a look, if you haven't already, on larosa.co.uk
The rest of the week we are going to spend walking the towpath of the Lancaster Canal and checking out any narrowboats along the way.
So I won't be around on RM next week, but will look forward to catching-up when I return. I'll take my camera so be prepared for some slightly out of focus holiday snaps. Au revoir...

There is apparently a tea room which you can hire for high teas. I shall be having a good look and photograph. It seems just the sort of place for Rural Musers. I'm looking forward to Yee hah! kicking my heels up in that there wooden bathtub!

How was Whitby and the La Rosa Hotel Jazz?! I'm quite relieved old Dracula didn't get hold of you - did you perhaps notice him lurking about?;)

Thanks. We had a fab time in Whitby, crocus et al. We got back via a road detour to Hawes due to an accident on the main route which closed the road, so I will have to watch the news to see what happened. Hopefully, nothing too serious. I have just popped into RM to catch up before going off down the Lancaster Canal tomorrow for a few days. Staying at La Rosa was great, and I took some photos, so will post them with my experiences on RM after I get back again. Dracula didn't get me this time, even though we went on an after dark Drac walk... Tell you all about it soon. Love, Jazz X.

My goodness. This is turning out to be a strange holiday. We were supposed to be walking the towpath of the Lancaster Canal for these few days after getting back from Whitby, but we were phoned and asked if we could do our induction to the Lancster Canal Trust yesterday, helping with the visitor boat. We were happy to do it, but when we got back there was a phone message from OH's boss asking him to go in today as an important meeting has had to be brought forward that only he has the info for! What would they have done if he was away somewhere else? OH loves his work so he happily trotted off this morning. So here I am pottering around at home. I hope that OH doesn't just decide to give up the next two days of his holiday and remain at work...

I think it goes to show that you can only really "get away" if you do just that! Mobiles/blackberries/email make it very hard to truly get away and I suppose they would have to have kept to the original schedule if your OH had not been available. How disappointing for you.

Well, it's not the end of the world. Hopefully, OH will still be off work tomorrow and Weds so that we can still do parts of the walk that we had planned. Unfortunately, I'm married to a man who is married to his work and sees no problem in going back to his job in the middle of his holiday just to see what's going on and catching up... Apparently it is a meeting with representatives from an organisation in the States that OH had planned to meet later in the week, but who have had to cut their visit to the UK short and wanted to move the meeting forward. There must be funding involved for everyone to have agreed!

Grrr! He's back know after spending the whole day at work "catching up on this and that after the meeting". He was only there a week ago! Luckily, he is suitably contrite and we are off for a walk along the canal tomorrow and out for a meal tomorrow evening. It isn't the same as just packing a rucksack and taking off, but we'll enjoy it just the same. Some friends that we haven't seen for a few years are unexpectedly coming to the Lake District for a short 'staycation' this weekend so it will be lovely to see them again and it will seem as if our holiday is lasting longer too.
