I love the old stained glass and have made it into features in my house.I have just plain windows in my house but have stood a couple of smaller panes in the windows just for a feature.

Mum used to live in a big Victorian townhouse, where the glass in the frontdoor was the original stained glass, set in the actual door and in the leaded, timber and glass surround. Looked wonderful. You don't really get that care now in ordinary houses built on estates. In fact, unless it's something quite special, those sorts of decorations aren't deemed to be a valuable part of the design. Whether it's just penny pinching, or to do with sustainable resources/environmental cost, I don't really know. From a developer's point of view, probably the former.

I love stained glass too, although prefer the lighter colours and more modernist designs. I live right next door to a stained glass artist who has beautiful panels in her windows. She also worked with children and parents at the local primary school to create a huge stained glass window in the school wall which looks amazing on dark nights when the lights are on inside.

There's just something about it that lives on and on.

I agree with you, Sheddie, that stained glass makes the world a more beautiful place. Even in the grimest surroundings a lighted stained glass window in a church or other building makes the rest of the area look magical and inviting.

It is very hard to come by now, but I have had and sold some beautiful pieces. Now it is very sought after by the big architectural yards.
