Some more bad news about the chickens, we lost another one today. Although she had seemed fine yesterday, this afternoon we noticed that one of the chickens was looking ill. Closer inspection revealed that she was egg-bound and infested with nasty maggoty things - it was not a pretty sight. The vet next door is away for the weekend so I went and asked the chicken farmer next door on the other side (who gave me the chickens in the first place) and he confirmed what I already expected, that the best thing to do was put her down.
He very kindly came over and put her out of her misery - and showed me how to do it for future reference. Not only that, but he also brought 3 new chickens from his farm! So now we have four chickens. They are getting on well with the remaining original chicken, and have just been tucked up for their first night in thier new coop.
