One of the three chickens was found dead in the coop yesterday afternoon, laying on her back. She had been fine earlier in the day.

Poor chicken, now we have two.

Oh no, Mr Z! I am sorry to hear of your chicken's demise. Are they rehomed battery hens? Sometimes these can be quite weak due to the way that they have been kept before and, despite your best efforts, sometimes they don't live long. I remember the worry and upset about Oola's 4 girls, although there were many joyful times too. I think that chalking it up to the cycle of farming life is probably the best way to deal with it. I'm sure that another chook will come your way; just have to make sure that she didn't die of anything that the others could catch. RIP Zebra chicken. X.

The other two are OK (or they were when I checked at lunchtime).
I have no idea what killed her. Not sure if/when we'll be getting some more...

That's so sad, poor thing, I hope she didn't suffer. This sounds like tongue in cheek, but I really do mean it I can't stand dumb friends to suffer.

Hi Mr Zebra, sorry about your little hen. One of mine at the moment is fading away. It started when we had the hot weather. We think she has a heart problem because her comb is slightly purple. Annie is my prettiest hen. I've examined her several times and cannot find anything wrong...her feathers are squeaky clean, lush and beautiful. She is eating and drinking well and comes to see me. But the rest of the time sits very still drowsing. It's rather sweet because the other three hens take it in turns to sit with her.
