Sheep Poo Paper?

In a very interesting programme "Mountain" I've just watched, the presenter visited a paper mill. It's the only craft paper mill in Wales. Sheep poo (as fresh as possible) are collected, washed, dried, a special recipe is used to make it into a pulp and then paper sheets are produced. It's total recycling and I find it very interesting indeed. The paper is sold all over the world.

I think I've seen this before, crocus. Fascinating, isn't it, how they manage to dream up these things?

It is most fascinating, and the building doesn't look like a lot from the inside. Inside of course is a different story, very clean and tidy and then this paper making. To think it all start of with a handfull of fresh sheep poo. It's like in S.A. where there's handmade paper being produced from elephant poo - I think I'll stay with the sheep, thanks you........

I have some paper in the house made from elephant poo, crocus. It is a silvery grey colour with a fine grainy texture. Nice looking, but I haven't written on it yet. I suppose it sort of makes sense really as herbivore poo is only munched up grass, weeds and sticks, which is what you use to make paper anyway. The animal has already done most of the mashing for you, although I expect that washing the final result it is a bit of a problem. I'll have to look out for the Mountain programme.

Exactly Jazz, that washing process I think can be quite smelly! Anyway, please try to watch "Mountain" - the presenter is Griff Rhys Jones. The scenery causes me to cry almost, the text is wonderfully written, humorous and the presentation is just as good.
I can't wait for Friday evenings for this to on. x

Came on this thread by accident and we have a card made from sheep poo paper which daughters gave us for wedding anniversary - you would never know, it just looks like rather smart hand made paper!
