I think it is such a shame that some allotments near us have been vandalized after all the work that has gone in to them. Unfortunately it has supposedly been down to travellers that broke down the large gates and got in.The council have now moved them on again, but for how long?

Yes, that is a shame Sheddie. I guess that is the major drawback with allotments. They are at a distance from where you live so you ca'nt keep an eye on them.

A lot of the local allotments around here were ruined in the floods. It was heartbreaking to see.

It's very difficult because the allotments basically rely on the 'goodwill' of the local people to NOT vandalise them. It's a very easy thing not to do. Short of putting up CCTV - and I'm not sure how that would work in the middle of a load of allotments - or employing security staff (not likely due to costs), this isn't going to change.

I can't stand people that vandalise or flytip, I literally thing they must have a mental problem that needs addressing. On a blog I read, recently a smallholder found his sheep were all ill, and later found out that local kids had been throwing apples at his lambs. Aside from being frightening for the lambs, they then ate the apples which have made them very ill. If I caught someone doing that to my animals I really think I would find it hard to control myself.

That's appalling, the poor lambs. They want stringing up for something like that.

I would lose control over something like that too (the lambs). I hate cruelty to animals or anyone for that matter. Often people that vandalise are jealous because they have nothing of worth in their own lives so try to bring everyone down to the same level. It is disheartening for people to put in so much effort and then have it destroyed. The vandals should be caught and made to work hard fixing the damage, alas that only happens in films.

It's again a matter of respect.. Whether fellowman, or animal, or whatever the case may be!
