Hi, has anyone else seen Llamas in fields full of sheep? I think they are there to protect the sheep. I wold like to know what Llamas would do if a predator came into the field. Do they run fast? Are they aggressive? Just interested to see if anyone has some information.

We have a llama in a field of sheep near to us and I was told foxes are afraid of them.

I think that they are used as guards, but their wool is really nice for felting and spinning too, especially when mixed with sheep's wool. Perhaps they have a double duty - to protect a wool herd and add some extra pizzaz to its wool.
In South Africa ostriches are used to protect livestock in fields in the same way.

The Scottish distileries use geese to warn of prowlers.
