I was on a 4 mile walk today with a group of friends and was overawed by the beauty of the countryside. OK it was a particularly fine day for April. The woods in this country are part of our heritage and should be preserved and enjoyed.
The bluebells were in full bloom and are a particular favourite of mine as the was a bluebell wood behind my grandparent's home and I spent many happy hours there. Unfortunately that wood has now gone.

Hi Gentian. I agree with you. The woods and forests are sooo beautiful in the UK. Just a few miles from us we have a beautiful bluebell wood which, we intend to visit on Sunday. Also, in the New Forest.....20 minutes from where we live, there is a place called Rhinefield. The trees are Douglas Firs and, although around 150 foot tall, are babies compared to their sister trees in their native Vancouver which are over 300 feet tall !!!

I have a friend, SF, who visits The New Forest as often as she can, she loves the horses and often stays there in her caravan for up to 6 weeks at a time. The visited recently and were amazed to see how brown everything was, I hope it is greening up by now

We went to the Chilterns a couple of Aprils ago and were amaized at the bluebell woods and blossom trees everywhere. I think they are a wonderful sight and I agree with you that they should be preserved.

Yesterday we visited a beauitful bluebell wood. This year they seem to be more wonderful and such an intense perfume. Everything is green now in the New forest except the ferns which are a lovely shade of brown until the new shoots appear.

You are absolutely right Gentian; children can enjoy a woodland, as they really inspire the imagination, and adults...well, partly for the same reason! I love being able to go for a woodland walk in the evenings, it's the perfect antedote to working with computers and staring at a screen all day.

Our woods are currently in bloom too - I love the bluebells but (Rich doesn't understand this) love the wild garlic too!

I like the appearance of a mass of wild garlic, but not keen on the smell.
