I last weekend decided to paper a wall in my bedroom, I have used a new wallpaper from Laura Ashley that is black and i have had a absolute nightmare with it, it is that bad i am going to have to take it down and get someone professional in. You can see every seam!
Has anyone else had this problem?
If the answer is NO could you please tell me how you put it up

Any help would be great

Welcome Fife to the forum to start with. :)

As to your question I try to avoid wallpaper although I understand it is coming back in vogue again, but not for me to much hassle and if I did ever decide to go for wallpaper I would get someone in to do it for me.

I think it is because it is black, but DO give Laura Ashley some feedback.

My husband is a retired professional decorator he says if you have plumbed the paper upright and butted the joints properly you should be ok .However some papers will show every join especially if they are plain.Did you leave the lengths long enough to soak before hanging .They should be left to soak untill pliable.Hope this is some help to you.

Hi fife, welcome to RM. Like Healing Hands I try to avoid wallpaper as it is quite difficult to put up yourself. Saying that my mother-in-law does it really well and she has a very small stature and now she can hardly see! She says that the problem of seeing all the joins might be caused if you haven't lined the wall with lining paper first. This is to create a smooth surface on the wall and an easier surface for the wallpaper to stick to. Her best tip is to line the wall with horizontal panels of lining paper, then put up your wallpaper in long, vertical panels as you would expect. Good luck with your next try, it sounds like lovely paper.

Hi Dinger, definitely, most definitely no comedienne - I promise! Just plain little me. Well, with a professional decorater as a hubby and your writing talent ......... it does carry on and on! ;)

Avoid dark wallpaper or the cheat's method-put a quick colour wash on the walls in the colour of the paper.

Thanks for all the advice especially sheddie and lily i should have thought to paint the wall black first. I can now gladly say that the day after new years day myself and my husband followed your advice and the wallpaper looks perfect not a seam in sight.

We have done the same thing and I know what you mean about the rest looking shabby. Did you know B&Q are selling expensive wallpapers for £1 a roll, so I'm told and I got mine from there. It is such good quality too. Maybe worth a look. X:D

Dark wallpaper is definitely "in". Did anyone see the recent TV programme about the Llewellyn Bowens restoring their Cotswold manor house? The bedroom was black feature paper + black bedlinen and scarlet lamps- a bit house of ill repute for my taste but I liked the rest of it.

Hi Fife, I heard if you start to paper in the opposite direction to the light yo should avoid the visable lines!!
