Last Friday when I bought some Bull Denim which I want to use as a lining for the living room curtains, the lady at the paypoint told me that she usually stands whilst sewing curtains. So today I tried it and it really worked! It's less hard on you neck, shoulders and arms, especially when it's quite heavy fabric you're working with like I did today.
I also iron all the seams after I measured it out. It makes it much easier to sew. x

That's a good tip crocus, mind you, I'm not planning any more curtains at the moment. We had the last ones made as the windows are very wide and need double width fabric. I got the fabric in a sale, and a third off the making up fee in Jan. (see thread on spending!)

These curtains are for the patio doors, so also quite wide and also quite high. Fotunately we have a counter in the living room which is just the right height for me and it really worked well. I'm not planning on making any more curtains in the very near future. My problem is the enough floorspace (not enough space anywhere really) to lay it out to cut. Fortunately the shop assistant at the shop were willing to cut it for me. They don't usually do this, but when I explained her my dilemma, she was ever so helpful.

Late Saturday night, after going out on a mothers day meal with one of our sons, I came home and made some kitchen curtains. I bought the fabric earlier on that day and it is sorbet lemon gingham. Throughout December the kitchen window was adorned with red gingham curtains and soft fabric gingham hearts which I made. I love hanging new curtains. I certainly would'nt say that I am good at it, but I love the way curtains transform a room. A few months back I made the living room curtains from Laura Ashley fabric. I also bought another lot of fabric at the same time to make winter curtains in September. Yes, you are right. Ironing the seams before sewing is so helpful, also taking time to find a comfortable position to sew is very important.
