Britain's Heritage - Peterborough Cathedral

We ventured east today as OH is going to buy a new electronic organ and Peterborough has a good centre. While he tickled the ivories I went into the city and found a beautiful cathedral with Norman architecture, behind an arched entrance. The Town Hall I though quite impressive, but unfortunately the Guildhall was surrounded by hoardings so only got the top of it.

I am glad you posted these photos as Peterborough is one of those places that I have bypassed North/South and East/West and never considered what it might be like.

I guess I am surprised how nice it looks because I don't associate Fenland cities with much stonemasonary.
Yes I know there are stone buildings in Cambridge too, but my real problem with fenland is the "big sky" feeling; I'm much more comfortable in slightly hilly areas like my southern downlands where the horizon is never too far away and there are more surprises round corners.

they are very good photos though and I might detour into the town next time I am near.

Thanks for the photos Gentian. I have not been to Peterborough but it looks like a place I would enjoy so will consider it for the future.

Beside this area there is a new shopping precint with very modern shops including John Lewis and Waitrose.
I know what you mean Clunk, I like ups and downs and don't like to see where I will be in the next half hour. I like a surprise round every corner. Give me the mountains.
