We have got double glazed windows but in old fashioned metal frames . All winter every morning we have to dry all the windows down and get puddles on the sills . Does anyone have any useful solutions to this problem please. I think a humidifier may be the only answer but they are expensive and would need in each room.

Hi dinger. The house that we live in has the same problem. Every day I have to mop up little water puddles on the sills and open the windows even when it is cold. One thing that might help is if you can leave your windows open a crack all the time. Unfortunately, we can't do this as our windows only open up really wide or not at all! Another solution that I read about is to drill two small holes at the bottom of the lower frame of each window from the inside to the outside. This allows condensation to escape. In looking for a solution for our own problem, I have bought some small plastic boxes that come with crystals that you put in them. You put these on the window sill and they suck the moisture into the box and then you empty it when full. You can buy these in most hardware shops and they aren't expensive. There is a much more expensive 'window snake' for sale by Lakeland, but I don't think that it would be better than these boxes. Good luck, and if you find a better solution please let me know.

I hate condensation on windows. Our bedroom is the worse place in the house, and every night before getting into bed I wipe the windows dry with Lu roll. Actually, I've got quite a fear of condensation. Rightly or wrongly I think it leads to repiratory problems especially amongst children. It cannot be healthy sleeping with all that wet in the atmosphere. Thank you for the tip Jazz.

Your problem is that there is not a gap between the inside window metal frame and the outside and in cold weather the frame is so cold that any moisture in the room condenses on the frame. We have plastic windows and doors now and have stopped the problem. The only part that has condensation is the key hole which is metal and right through to the outside
