Here's another edition Crocus, hope you like.:)

The canals of Britain were once the great communication routes and now are
enjoyed by holiday makers. These photos was taken near the Lapworth and Kingswood junction of the Grand Union Canal and The Stratfrord on Avon Canal.
There are distinctive cottages nearby built by the men who built the tunnels and because this kind of structure was what they could build their houses have barrel shaped roofs.
The footbridges over the canal are split so that they could pass the rope of the horse through without un-hitching

Hi Gentian thanks! OH loves canals and locks. Have you been to Foxton Locks? We drove many many miles to get to these locks. OH was like a child that day!

About locks and bridges and the like, Postbridge down south and also Tarr Steps are also worth a visit, especially if you crazy about pack horse bridges, ancient stone brides like me. Thanks very much for the above photos! xxx

We use the tow paths for some of our WI walks, at least they are always flat.

I also remember locks and the tow paths at Devizes. Have you been to the Falkirk Wheel up in Glasgow? Modern, but impressive all the same. We haven't been there, but OH would do anything to ge there.

Althought I live in GB the furthest north I have been is Carlisle. OH will only go south so will have to look for pics in this half of the country.

Re canals .. we live fairly near the Falkirk Wheel and would strongly recommend a visit - it is amazing. We have also spent many lovely holidays on canal boats in England and France. The Forth and Clyde canal (i e across Scotland from Edinburgh to Glasgow) is very near us which the fishing boats used in the past to save going all the way round the north of Scotland. The Caledonian canal from Inverness to Fort William has magnificent scenery when you can see it through the mist and rain - but in good weather its fantastic. Happy walking/canal boating to everyone. Kind regards Cathie-W

Hi cathie, long time no see! I love canals too, lived near one as a child, and don't live too far away from another now. We love to seek them out on holiday and have a walk, they are such an oasis of peace.

Hi Franbee - I havent been posting for ages as life has been quite busy recently but its calming down a little. Must also say re canals that my sister in law spent about ten years actually living on a canal barge in London and had a wonderful time there. The community spirit was lovely - but cannot remember the name of the canal - it wasnt Little Venice which we have also visited.

Hi Cathy! My OH would so like to see the Falkirk Wheel! He's totally crazy about canals, canal boats and locks. We will have to make a trip to the Falkirk Wheel when next we visit the UK, whenever that is. xx
