Argh, not long ago I was out in the most torrential rain I have ever experienced. I saw it start and headed out to make sure that the chickens were ok. They were cowering in a corner so I called them and they started following me in a line to the greenhouse, but stopped at their 'camp' (more leaky and draughty than the greenhouse). Only Maureen followed me and then turned back when she saw where the others were.

My umbrella wouldn't stay up and kept getting blown around, and when I took it down it was literally like standing under a shower. So I wrapped my scarf around my head and shoulder and set about picking up the chooks and carrying them under my scarf/shawl to the greenhouse where they could stay dry.

So one by one the first three were dashed there, only Cynthia, the last hen I had to take, hates being picked up and is really fast. I couldn't catch her and she was darting around in all this wind and stair rod-type rain. I gave up and went over to the greenhouse to call her over but she just stood in her camp on her own squawking. Eventually I managed to 'drive' her like a sheep to the greenhouse, and she settled in happily with the others, preening their wet feathers and looking a bit flustered after all the weather and drama. Just looked in on them now and they're still preening but looking very relaxed in the greenhouse. Left their water and some mixed corn in there since it's still a bit drizzly.

I, in the meantime, am having to dry all my clothes on the radiator and still have half a wet head!

Why didn't they follow you to the dry green house? Well they wanted to get there by Oola taxi! Not get as wet as you did.

Yes I'm fine, nothing a hot drink and crumpet couldn't fix!!!! It was quite funny, I did laugh about it when I came in :) Looks like the east coast is set for the worst flood surge since 1953 though...

Weatherwise things up quite upside down here. It still is not summer yet, although we are now in short sleeves. But we've got the wrong wind blowing, rain which is quite unusual for this time of year and is not altogether that hot. But I'm not complaining. I love this kind of weather.

Oola, hope the half a wet head is now a complete dry head? I must say, the picture in my mind with your chicken kids did cause a giggle or two! Sorry, but the way that you described it..............:)

You couldn't have written a better funny short film script if you'd tried, methinks!

I won't dare go the route of saying which actor would've made the grade for the star role. ;)

OOla you are a card, I was out in that rain too, but looked like a hoodie in a top my daughter gave me. My hair is a right state now and can't get warm, but I'm always cold as I've mentioned before, couldn't wait to get home and look like 'jacks mother'. I am cuddling a hot water bottle as we speak.

Got me thinking who could take your part Oola to have kept up the funny side of your story .What do you think about Julie Walters would she have done it well do you think .Does anyone else have an idea on this.

People at school used to tell me that my mannerisms were similar to Jennifer Saunders/Eddi from AbFab....oh good grief. Can't see it myself (or WON'T see it) lol.

I think your 'chooks' are going to become the subject of film speculation Oola and your antics trying get them to shelter,if you should decline to play the leading roll, then Dawn French might do,I think she is highly amusing as 'the vicar of Dibley'
