My old laptop has just about ceased working, but I have no idea how get rid of it. We have very little in the way of recycling here, a couple of tips to take newspaper, magazines, plastic, aluminium. What are you supposed to do with this sort of item?.

Hi keepersdaughter,do you have the proverbial 'little man' who mends computers of sells them second hand,? if so he might find something of use in it however old it is,if not,why not Google on how to get rid of it,there may be some special 'computer heaven 'somewhere local wherever you live. Just a thought!

Like the last post I know of someone who fixes old computers, takes old ones for the bits and so on, also heard that charities, like ones we have which aim to set up young homeless people with a place of their own and a new life, are grateful for computers. Not much help I know, but a call to the local council, CAB office should bring some help... or a trawl through ads in a local paper, yellow pages?

Thanks girls, there is a small computer repair shop next town over. Maybe he might have some ideas - it's really not working well enough to give away. Ordered two new batteries, neither work, will only work plugged in. Tried to use it last night again as it has all my recipes - the ones I've got organised - thinking I could transfer or email them to myself and it wont work. It's taking nearly 15 mins. just to log onto internet. I'm also a little scared about someone who knows how, gaining acces to personal info. that may be stored like email accounts-had problems with that lately, or credit card accounts. I suppose there's always the sledgehammer, but I was wanting to do it in a 'green' way so as to not harm anything too. I'm going to hve a google. Thanks.

Hi,
If you're afraid of personal info getting into the wrong hands just remove the hard-drive and bung the laptop in a recycling centre, or municipal waste bin.
