I came across this site which is using algae as an alternative fuel source.

It seems quite remarkable, not only that it can produce far more than corn based product, but through photo synthisis sucks in carbon dioxide and can also be used as animal feed product.

I haven't heard much about this, does anyone know if it is really viable and if so, why isn't more being done to promote it.

I read about this once in Permaculture magazine, KD. It seems like a good idea to me, as pond algae is unwanted, but is full of nutrients. My guess is that the reason that it isn't being promoted more openly is that the bg petro-chemical companies haven't yet worked out a way to convince everyone that seeding global water supplies with algae just to serve the fuel needs of the West would be a good thing, but I'm sure that they are working on it...

Scum on ponds is unsightly and a nuisance so it would be good if they could come up with a use for it.
