Well I don't know how you are all doing but I am not happy at all with my weight gain!!:(

I can carry on excusing myself about I have been comfort eating or I can start to do something about it. So I now have a cake free, biscuit and chocolate free home ~~~~~~~ It's the only way!! You have to be ruthless and get it gone!!

So I am now ready to begin losing the weight I have gained, who's joining me?:)

Count me in, Sheddie - this is always a difficult time to get back on the straight & narrow after the Christmas treats. I've lost 3 stone since August but still have a long way to go! Fortunately I didn't put much on over Christmas although it's been unusually social one for me, and I did get a nice boost on New Year's Eve when a colleague commented on the difference (that's 4 people now who've noticed, out of a total of 100+ here!). I just wish the weather was a bit more exercise-friendly (garden is frozen solid, and our country droves are unusable for walking in the winter), but you're so right - you just have to buckle down and get on with it. Good luck!

I will join you Sheddie. I have put on 3lb last week, that is added to the stone I put on last year. I have got to do something to stop the spread. My stomach looks like I've swallowed a large Christmas pudding whole. I have never been on a diet and have no will power so I don't know how I'm going to lose weight. I need advice and inspiration.

I must also loose weight, but my motivation needs a whole lot of boost.

ohhh! Annie that is good! I lost all of three or four pounds in November and have managed to get to now relatively unscathed, but there is just so much chocolate! Even limiting myself to just two a day it will take many months to eat, and I am not joking here! There are so many boxes I've got to put them in order of date! And no birthdays or anything imminent that I can pass them on!

don't know, but they definitely make good eating. This is not a good attitude, is it?

I'll join in again, sheddie. I've put back the small amount of weight that I lost the last time that we had a try! However, new year new me and all that...

Daughter will have maintained her goal weight a year at the beginning of March, so it can be done. I have to get some tips after her exam next week.We need a shopping list put together I think. X

But we do not have a chance if we have chocolate etc in the house so do what I have done and give it to the accident service or someone needy. X

Well, I think I need to loose some weight as well. But will start as soon a I have finished off all the nice things that are still lying around. But I promised myself not to buy any new sweets or cheese sticks or favourite cookies (if I have the willpower):(

My mother didn't do us any favours. We still have a mountain of Christmas fayre to wade through and she goes out and buys more edibles.

Tell you what, rustic, we'll all come round and help eat up your naughty nibbles, then you can start afresh, 1 small nibble each shouldn't make any difference, should it?!!

I'll join you all but still have lots of biscuits to go with cheese, mince pies and chocolate. So OH will have to eat the mince pies and the chocolate will have to be given away. Have promised myself that tomorrow is back on diet day. My trousers are feeling a bit tight and uncomfortable. One big problem is Friday is my birthday and I usually get taken out to dinner. So I guess that will have to be a big no to a pudding. I do envy those lucky people that can eat anything and still stay slim

I think this thread has shown up a factor that most of the dieting advice has missed - it's not entirely about the willpower to get back on track after Christmas that's the problem, it's all the leftovers! I managed to sneak my chocolates - hoping she doesn't recognise the ones she gave me - and the remaining biscuits into my Ma's Treats container; no comments so far so I'm hoping she just thinks it magically self-renews! We avoided mince pies this year, and I somehow found the strength to pass on the Stilton she produced (cheese being something I miss more than chocolate, to be honest) so the only problem I've got is the mincemeat icecream a la Nigel Slater (= b****y scrumptious). I can't give it to my mother as she's dairy-intolerant, so will have to bury it at the back of the freezer and wait for friends to come round!

If it's any help (and apologies if I'm repeating myself from an earlier thread) I find having some fresh, home-made soup in the fridge (the rest of the batch goes in the freezer) is a life-saver, especially on cold days. I microwave a mug of it as soon as I get home, which keeps my stomach occupied for just long enough to feed the cats and be sensible about what I'm going to make for my own supper. If it's a low-fat veg soup it won't make much difference to the overall calories/fat count for the day (it's also cheap!). Otherwise I can get home with a raging hunger-headache which can easily drive me into eating too much, or the wrong stuff. Got this idea from the F2 Diet by Audrey Eyton, and it certainly works for me.

I think the soup idea is a very good one Annie. At one stage everyone here went onto a veggie soup diet! Any kind of veggies you could think of got thrown into this soup and apparently a lot of ladies had very good results. I only mentioned it to emphasize that your soup idea I think is healthy way of "keeping one's stomach occupied". I love soup so won't at all mind having a cup of soup when the hunger think it's boss. xx

Like a lot of you I am struggling with the diet as we are still eating left-overs. I can't waste food so it has to be eaten. I was going to go on my peddle machine this morning but as it had snowed I was out clearing the drive. I am hoping it burnt up some calories. I shall have to exercise more until the food is used up.

Sign me up sheddie, even though i have lost quite a lot i am hoping to loose more a bit quicker this year, but i am having the same problem as everyone else, cant stop eating the christmas leftovers.

Anyone got any chocolate liquers they need taking off their hands.

I went on my pedal machine today and after some frantic pedaling it told me I had used 30cals! Hardly worth the effort. So tonight finished my chocolates(just 4), looked longingly at the mincepies and some special cheese but settled for some toast. Not a good start but like you Dragonfly I don't throw food away so think diet will have to wait a day or 2

Cindy how often do you use your peddler? I am trying to do 1000 steps a day and build up to 5000 (only did 750 today). We should encourage each other and see if we can get fit together.

I have been eating sensibly for 3 days now, not easy but I was ruthless and got all the leftovers gone to good homes. At the moment I am not following a diet just eating and using the right things. So here are a few for your shopping list:-

fresh fruit and veg, frylight, Flora light, semi skimmed milk, only 2 slices of a small loaf, weightwatchers or nimble, canderel sweetener. Last night I had chicken and chips and garden peas, all you do is cut up the chips, spray a baking tray with frylight, put chips on and spray with frylight, put on Gas 7 turning occasionally, spraying depending on how brown you want them. LOvely!!X

Crocus, Iv'e been dieting for about a year' used to belong to Slimming World and reached my weight and then decided I could go alone and not put it back! Daughter has also been dieting and has lost nearly 4 stone. We email each night with a truthful account of what we have eaten but since before xmas we have both sinned. So hopefully will all start again tomorrow. So I look forward to the need for food dominating my thoughts from then:o

How are you getting on, Crocus...I've been hungry for the last 2 days and it has not helped making bread today. The smell just gets to me

Not to bad actually Cindy, thanks for asking! Yesterday was a bit of a problem as it was OH's birthday and we went out for lunch. But I tried my best and had a light lunch. Today wasn't to bad either, but as you say, one gets hungry and has to adapt! Oh dear. Best wishes Cindy - don't be tempted by that lovely home baked bread eh? Crossing fingers for you! xx

Drink a glass of water when you're feeling to hungry Cindy. xxxx

I take a thermos of hot water with a couple of slices of lemon in to work - keeps me hydrated (air-conditioned office), bit more interesting than just water and keeps me away from tea and coffee (which I'm very bad about taking without milk unless I put a spadeful of sugar in). As Crocus says, it shuts up the hunger signals, too!

When water and flour get mixed, glue is what you get.
Add sugar and eggs, and it changes into cake.

What may you ask happened to the glue part?
It caused the cake to stick to your bum .....
