I came across this magazine yesterday: "BBC Britian's Best Countryside Mag ~ CountryFile". I've never seen this magazine before and it's full of interesting articles about country life, organics, etc. etc.
In the letter section this letter caught my eye:
[The letter was by Mike Thompson, via email.
"A Plot Among Friends.
............
My advice to anyone wanting an allotment or stuck on a waiting list for one would be to ask a plot-holder if you could share a small part of their plot, in exchange for part payment of the rent or help to dig and plant. This could have many benefits, including getting to know other allotment holders and sharing tips on growing.
I have an allotment and with the agrement of the committee have loaned part of my plot to six adults with learning difficulteis and their supervisor. They arrive every week in the Land rover, work for six hours and have their packed lunch in my shed. I purchased a pair of binoculars for them from the charity shop, and during their breaks they watch the birds and wildlife in the woodland from the small area they have planted with herbs. The group have a few tools and I always lookout for second-hand ones to help out."]
Don't you think it's a good idea?
This was in the June edition.
There's a section "Live the good life" with sections such as Q&A, Green Heroes, Projects, Breathing Places and Grow your Own. Everyday tips for a greener lifestyle. It really seems a very interesting magazine.
