as i cant eat wheat i am experimenting on making something as a treat that is very healthy but also very tasty.
my apple crumble last night was delicious.
i made my topping with 2 oz potatoe flour,2oz rice flour 2oz wheat flour.crumbled with 2oz real butter, once crumbled added 2oz sugar and 1 table spoon of oat bran.what a lovely tasty topping it ended up.the fruit...loads of cooking and a few eating apples.one ripe mango all cut up.warmed the bowl with a table spoon of golden syrup in the bottom.then 1oz of sugar.mixed all the fruit in this and then added the topping. a big hole in the middle so the steam can come out.cooked well.next week i am going to try a bit of brown sugar replacing some of the white.see if it tastes richer.
oh dragonfly the apples were lovely thanks.

Sounds lovely Eleanor. I have been having lots of stewed apples, with honey, with sugar but my favourite is with golden syrup.
Besides apple crumble and apple pie does anyone know what else I can do with apples. There is rather a glut at the minute.

Crocus is apple sauce just stewed apples or do you add other ingredients? I have stewed a lot and put it in the freezer. x

I made my favourite crumble last Friday. I use jumbo oats instead of some of the flour. But it's the fruit I like - 400g of strawberries, 2 sliced bananas, and a sliced eating apple or two if needed, really yummy

Hi DF, sorry for only noticing your post now about the apple sauce.
4 apples - peeled, cored and chopped, 3/4 cup of water, 1/4 cup sugar' You could perhaps add a bit of cinnamon s well, about 1/2 teaspoon.
In a saucepan, combine all of the above. Cover, and cook on medium heat for 15 to 20 minutes, or until apples are soft. Allow to cool, then mash until smooth.

Can you have wheat flour in your crumble if you can't eat wheat, eleanor? I have made a crumble topping in the past using jumbo oats, ground almonds and crushed brazil nut and a sprinkling of brown sugar. It was lovely. In fact, I feel like making it again now...
What about apple tart, DF. The french style with a sort of marzipan base with sliced apples on top is really nice.

I can eat wheat but try not to as it is the most fattening of the cerials. Jumbo oats make it taste quite nutty, like your recipe Jazz, will give it a try.
