Yesterday I was very naughty and took myself of out shopping for the day. I do this twice a year. I love looking around the shops and having lunch out on my own. Yesterday I brought some lovely clothes for the winter, some practical and some nice clothes. I think it comes from being a model in my early years and also wanting to be a dress designer.

Client arrived will have to come back to this one ....sorry...:)

I think some retail therapy does you good from time to time, and you seem to have enjoyed your day HealingHands, good for you. Have you ever designed any clothes? It must be great to have an eye for fashion and design etc,I'm afaid I go with what I feel comfortable in and it's not necessarily the height of fashion.

Sometimes my daughter and I have a shopping day at the nearby Trafford Centre...well near to her...and I love to see all the fashions and spend hours looking for a particular item.Thankfully my daughter is like you (although she has never been a model) but she does have an eye for fashion and dresses well herself.Often I am seriously in need of her guidance!

Glad you had a good day Carolyn. I am hopeless at clothes so use catalogues a lot but did have a day in Salisbury recently and Debenhams do not seem to go above a size 14.

this time of year i have a day shopping every couple of weeks. i love taking my time christmas shopping. then the last week when i am finished early.i love to go up town all relaxed when every-one is frantically rushing around. i have little idea of fashion.i just buy what i am comfortable in.i find the best buys are from charity shops and the debenhams sale.

I used to model for Jaeger when I was 17 years old. I wanted to be a dress designer first but my father would not let me go to Art College, as he thought that in the early 70's the Art School was for drop out...well yes in some ways it was but I really wanted to design clothes. When I was about 13-14 I was always drawing dresses. The 40-50's style was my fav...and still is, they used to dress so elegantly in those days. My dad then sent me to London School of Modelling, where I learnt deportment and many other things. There was a job going at Jaeger's for a house Model so that is what I became and for a few other fashion houses in London. It was fun.:) Oh well back to boring ironing now!!!

Healing Hands why not carry on with your dream of designing dresses now? My mum went to art college about 3 or 4 years ago when she was mid 40s, I don't see any reason why you still can't pursue your dream now? :)

Thanks Oola for the encouragement, but I am a little over 50!!! but it is worth a thought. I will have to look into it on the net. I suppose I could be the next Vivienne Westwood!

I really don't think your age is an issue - if you know good design, if you know the fashion world and you can keep up with latest designers and trends it shouldn't be an issue at all :) I say go for it, you might surprise yourself :)

Definitely go for it Carolyn! I'm very impressed -jaeger were always such lovely clothes.

getting back to the topic, I'm a great believer in "me time".Sometimes shopping, but doesn't have to be spending money-although thats very nice-I've just been for a lovely walk by the Plym estuary, just me + dog. Very relaxing, I think its good to just let thoughts wander sometimes.

Jaeger have improved on their design in the last two season, so I have treated myself to a couple of items, a classic black wool dress and a grey cashmere jumper, which I know will both last forever and will not date.

My me time is first thing in miorning walkking Jack. I do all my thinking and thank God for another day.

I shall next week see what is going at my local Art College. I wonder if my father will be looking down on me and saying "crazy girl" and my hubby, what will she be thinking of next! Thanks ladies for the support though..You are all wonderful.:)
