Tomorrow I am going putting lights and decs up in the entrance hall of Country Matters. It still feels a bit soon but Christmas begins for them in November.I have red lights like cherries, a large old santa with sack to put in amongst my bygones etc.Buying has begun and folks are buying crafts as well as my bits.Face it Christmas is coming like it or not!

Sheddie, I saw them start to put a few Christmas things on the shelves in July here :(. It seems to get earlier each year!. I'm late - usually start playing Christmas music around October :D. We usually put the tree up at the end of November, though take it down Boxing Day (they don't have Boxing Day over here, day after Christmas is usually the start of big sales) or day after. I don't think you're too early at all - it will be here before we know it.

Good morning all!! You are still nicely tucked up in bed eh? Wish it was me. Anyway, I can't believe Christmas is only 6 weeks away! When I'm going to "get ready" for Christmas, I really don't know - with us arriving back home just a week before Christmas. Perhaps between my sister's going back home, and our friends' arriving to babysit! That gives me 2 weeks. Goodness, am I going to busy! With boys still doing exams as well...........

I think if you have a business then it's not too early, so carry on the good work sheddie,it sounds lovely.Personally we will leave it until around half way through December, then then tree and the decs will be out.I think my daughter would lynch me if I said we weren't bothering, with her birthday ( and now wedding anniversary) so close to christmas and of course the possibility of 'small person' arriving near christmas too.Last years decs went up a bit earlier too because of the wedding, but they made a lovely backdrop to some of the photographs.
Little donkey, lol.... I used to play that on the recorder at lower school. I think I was part of a recorder ensemble playing it in the Christmas play one year. As a joke, Rich played it on the piano down the phone to my mum the other day :) tee hee

I think that it is too early, as you just get used to the decorations the longer that you see them and they lose their magic. Does anyone remember when they were children being take to big towns or cities to see the Christmas decorations? My family would go to either Cheltenham or Bath, or later Cape Town city centre, and slowly cruise underneath them in our Morris minor discussing each and every set. Then park and go and look at the big Christmas tree and display in the centre. To me, 1 Dec is early enough for shops, and the nearer to Christmas the better for everyone else.

When I was little my parents took me to see the London lights every year, It seemed magical then. I would get to see Father Christmas at Selfridges, remember Mr. Holly? he used to be there every year amusing the children while we stood in line to see the big man. Then we made our way to Petticoat Lane. I remember the stallholders yelling at the top of their voices, buying nuts, fruit, all assortment of stuff - everything seemed like such a bargin. When it was especially cold, I remember taking time to warm up by the roasted chestnut sellers, their big oil drums with glowing coal embers and the sweet smell of roasted chestnuts wafting through the air. It seemed a simpler, more inoocent time.

Oh, I enjoyed it so much, to go and see the Christmas Lights! Even in our little village we have Christmas lights - beautiful. We usually have a Christmas Carols evening on the village green the first Sunday in December. The huge Christmas Tree, decorated in beautiful Christmas lights etc. get switched on at exactly 8 pm and then everybody sing Silent Night! Young and old, just everybody. Goodness me, goose pumps like you don't want to know!
