Dinger I had forgotten about the smell of mansion polish and the long hours spent putting it on the furniture then polishing it off and the great satisfaction when the furniture shone like glass.

The last lot I had was in a spray can and the smell lingered for ages as well as giving a nice shine . Thanks Fran I will get on to it .xx

We don't have Mansion Polish of course, but I think something similar might be Cobra Polish we find here. It also has to be put on with a cloth, wait for quite a while for it to dry, and then polish it to a lovely sheen. We lived in an old house at one stage with Oregan Pine floors. Thursday evenings I used to wipe the floors, then put the polish on (on my knees) and then early Friday mornings I would polish it with my mum's Columbus Polisher. That smell was just so lovely - clean and almost a homely kind of smell. And the shine! Wow. It is available in a spray can nowadays, but it's not the same. xxx

Dinger, I remember the name Mansion Polish, the spray polishes nowadays don't produce the same finish or smell. I can't remember, did the Mansion smell like lavender?. We used to use some kind of polish on the front door step too, I hated having to do it. I just remembered the front door polish was called something like Cardinal, it was red.

I have the same problem, dinger. I've been looking for old fashioned lavender polish in a tin for quite a while now, but just can't find any, even in small, old, hardware shops! I remember Cobra polish, crocus. When I was in primary school we each used to have to polish our desk on the last day of term. Liberal amounts of Cobra were used and lots of elbow grease, but the desks glowed in the sunlight and the whole classroom smelled wunderful.

Hi Jazz, I still have a tin of cobra wax I think it's called. Don't have the oregan pine floors anymore. I also remember my mum polishing the parquet floors with this. Polishing the desks was quite a good idea, in more ways than one I think. The desks were well looked after, and it gave one a bit of pride, having such a gleeming desk! I think eventually there were more to it than just having polished desks.

I remember the red Cardinal Polish people use to polish their red steps and red tiled floors with it .

I have a tin of cardinal red, someone gave me it and I was going to give it to my Mum who had terracotta tiles in her kitchen, however, son now has the terracota tiles, but I think they may be covered up soon.
