A fantastic autumn for colours this year, we went to Westonbirt arboretum a few weeks ago when the trees were just starting to colour and its just got better and better. Planning a visit to Castle Drogo on Dartmoor at the weekend - lovely deep wooded valley. When I was growing up in South Wales we used to go around the Wye valley, don't know if its still as beautiful. Any special Autumn places anyone?

Hi Lily,
I live near to Nostell Priory, a lovely NT place. At this time of year the walk around the lake and through the woods is so special, I went last week with my son and we found a dip in the woods where there were all these red and white spotted toadstools growing in the fallen leaves, it really looked like something out of a fairy tale. We're going again tommorrow night for halloween to take part in a moonlit trail.

This afternoon was just glorious as the sun was starting to sink in the sky. The light looked so warm and welcoming, we were travelling in the car but I wish I'd had my camera on me. In Bedford, the trees on the Embankment are awash with red and golden hues at this time of year, and next to the water they look spectacular. Shame the rest of Bedford doesn't look so good!

I have a special place called The Tree Cathedral at Whipsnade. Oola if you haven't been there it's an absolute must. I go in the week and have it to myself, it is the most spiritual place on earth and the colours are just beautiful. The whole place is just amazing and the peace!!!mmmm

My fav time of year Autumn, you just cannot beat those beautiful colours on the trees. Taken many photos this week. I was out yesterday afternoon with jack and the sun was quite low, but the colour everywhere was just fantastic. Got some good shots of some red mushrooms with white spots on. Not sure what they are called.

Hi Serenty,we too live near a priory,Conishead Priory and they open their woods to the public for most of the year.OH and I went down there the other morning, the colours were spectacular,we took hundreds of pictures because we kept seeing a tree that was even mor beautiful than the last one as we pottered through the woods.

Oola,if its not too much of a hassle, could we have a gallery sometime?then we can put a picture or two on to illustrate a post such as this one.

Hi katelb, yes I always intended to have a gallery, but the gallery software that generally goes with this forum was a bit pricier than I was anticipating ($129/£64), but there are other alternatives out there that are free or less expensive, so I'm looking into the reviews on those to see if they'd be any good :)

The Beech trees in Dorset are beautiful and the hedges just a glorious colour and now the leaves are falling I get the view back over the valley.

Hi, you know, if I must name a place or two in the UK where I find peace and tranquitility, it's got to be the Yorkshire Dales. Another place will be the Church in Yanworth (not far from Bibury). We always go there, there's just something there that grabs us. It's not a big church, with a beautiful christening font(d)?. Very special to us. Arlington Row is just as peacefull (also in Bibury). The river at Famous Grouse Distillery near Crieff.

I drive down a long, twisting road through broadleaf forest to get to work. The other day the sun was shining, and the trees were just at that stage when they are changing colour at the top but still green below. All the different trees were an amazing sight - just like a fireworks display. Although I am not religious, each day I start the day by asking to see something beautiful and unexpected that day, and there is always something uplifting revealed for me to see.
