What are you having for your meal tonight? My OH has made a lovely homemade shepherds pie and the smell is wafting up to my office. I love the brown crispy bit on the top. So what are you having?

Monday night, it's raining, it's quite cool, so we had soup and crispy bread tonight. I made two different kinds of soup, lentil for me and pea soup for hubby. Boys don't like soup at all, except for potato and leek which we had last week. They had toast, with sausages, scrambled eggs and cheese. Not very healthy, but tomorrow evening I will cook a meal again. Had a cooked meal yesterday. Shepherds pie sounds delicious!

When my husband and/or daughter are home I like to cook 'proper' meals. My son likes things very simple; usually grilled mesquite chicken or steak with brown rice. Tonight son's having steak, i'm just having a jacket potato. When my daughter was home last week we went out for lunch and she had the best shepherds pie we'd ever tasted. The gravy tasted really rich, like it had been slow cooked in ale, with sliced portabella mushrooms and the potato topping had a parmesan crust. i'm going to have a go at making it like that myself next time I make it. Shepherds pie, a really classic comfort food i think. Sheddie you're lucky your hubby cooks.

We're having what we should have had last night - roast dinner. Just dug up some fresh parsnips from the veg patch to roast...

Shepherd's Pie is lovely, Sheddie. I top mine with a mixture of potato and parsnip mash, and like vegetarian Shepherd's Pie too. I came home to home made chicken curry and rice this evening, with ginger and garlic beans on the side. My partner is on 2 weeks annual leave at home, so he has been learning some new dishes to cook as part of his holiday. Mmm! still a few days left...

Made a red cabbage salad tonight. With finely sliced onions, added a dash of sweet chillie sauce to mayonnaise, also a bit of grainy mustard, a pinch of sugar, salt and pepper. Worked out quite well. It went well with the pork too.

My hubby just called and said he'd be home tomorrow for a couple of days - wasn't expecting that. So what to plan for dinner tomorrow. I've a huge bunch of swiss chard in the fridge, maybe saute some garlic in o. oil, wilt in chard, add red pepper flakes and a little pepper, toss in whole wheat pasta. Really quick and tasty. Now what to do the next day...
