As an ex veggie and even now only a rare meat eater, I wouldn't class fish as a vegetarian meal. Unless someone has specifically told you they do eat fish I would not run the risk of calling this a vegetarian menu!

As a vegetarian of nearly 20 years, I would not class this as a vegetarian meal as the primary ingredient in the main course is fish.

It is a common mistake made by a lot of chefs and cooks that vegetarians eat both fish and chicken. It is also a common mistake made by some who eat fish and chicken (but no other meat) to call themselves 'vegetarian' even if they aren't, which further adds to the confusion.

Yes, it sounds yummy, and for the main it would be so easy to substitute, say, chickpeas and another fruit, for the fish and prawns!

The starter is also making me hungry. Perhaps it has something to do with it being lunch time. I wish I could get decent avocados here, I would try that in a heartbeat. And probably demolish it even faster!

Oh, Bonnie, I am so sorry for being so negative in my first post. The only thing I can say in my defence is that if you'd been a veggie for as long as I have and had people invite you over only to serve you chicken or fish, and then be told 'well, you're a vegetarian, that's what they eat' you'd know why I said that! Also, the times I've been told to 'pick the bacon out' of a salad or some other dish!

I was also having a very bad day yesterday, woke up depressed and physically sore and (unexcusably) shouting at everyone for the least little thing.

Can you forgive me? And I am the one who needs kicking! But not too hard, please, for I am still very sore and aching!:)

Sorry Bonnie, was me that started any bum kicking, blame the hormones - my Nana always tells me never to write so much as a postcard when you're in a bad mood. The irony is I do actually eat the odd bit of fish these days and the cider curry sounds delicious! But I was veggie for years and like rustic used to get so annoyed when people offered me fish as a veggie meal when anything with eyes and a family was off the menu for me, you even get the same in some restaurants. I can't tell you the number of stories i have about ordering veggie and getting meat - there was the nut wellington that turned out to be the classic beef version, the brie bagette that also contained chicken, the veggie spring rolls with chicken.... I suppose after a while you get a bit sensitve to these things.

Or when people say "you don't eat fish but you eat eggs???"....

Which inevitably leads to the question, 'are your shoes made of leather?'

Bonnie, I love new recipes all the time, always inventing new things myself, so yes please, and if they do include meat or fish any vegetarian who cooks from scratch will have ways and means of knowing what to substitute.
