We've been watching this very interesting series. It's all about buying properties at auction, many times derelect houses it seems, and then renovating and redecorating it. Some of the properties really are completel derelect and I always wonder where the now owners start! Some haven't even seen the property:eek:! There's planning permissions, etc. as you of course know.
Would you do something like this, buy a house at auction and try to do somethig with it? :)

I've renovated two houses, crocus, but not from derelict shells and they weren't bought at auction. I would be a bit too nervous to buy a property at auction, as quite often they seem to have serious structural problems that are very difficult to solve. There are auctions here for farms and houses that have been repossessed, but I don't thnk that I would buy one on principle, as it would be benefitting from someone else's misery and feeding the bank. On the other hand, I suppose that you would be reducing how much the person owes to the bank... How do other people feel about buying property at different types of auction?

I won't mind renovating a house, but then perhaps not one bought at auction. Most of the episodes we've watched a problem always popped up, either sewerage, planning permission problems, not being allowed to do anything to the house etc. etc. So it seems a bit of a gamble. That said, there are quite a few houses which didn't have any kind of a problem, just old and derelect and the new owners did a very good job renovating it. I think the secret is perhaps to first have a look at such property, ask all possible questions before buying at auction.
It sounds very romantic, but it can turn into a nightmare as we've seen many times on this programme. Fortunately a programme like this points out everything that has to be considered and looked at I think.

I just love this show, I like to see how the new owners transform an often run-down house into a lovely home. My son is having his house renovated, whilst living in it mind you.
I think we are on repeats again at the moment, I seem to have seen most of these.

Hi Franbee, yes I also love these shows - can't get enough of it actually. Even if it's a repeat, I still watch. (It's like Rick Stein's Food Heroes, I can watch it over and over again!)

I like this programme and would love to renovate a house but only if I had money to spare, it is a gamble and I wouldn't risk losing what I already have.
