well my wheely bin was delivered yesterday.i dont know if i am behind everyone else.there it stands large and majestic.a stark mammoth plastic container. i dont know wether it is posher than the old black bins or what.we have sprayed our number on with pride. the trouble is i dont know if we have to leave them at the front of the house for ever and ever.it says leave next to the kerb.there is no kerb at the back.where bin men now pick up our black bags. so will my terraced row with small frontages be blighted from this day forward with these modern day resepticles. in a town near me these were the beginings of fortnightly collections. what are we in for and what is your experience of these bins on wheels.

Where I live we are not provided with wheelie bins or even black plastic bags. We have to buy our own bags to put the rubbish out in. We do not have a re-cycling collection as we have the audacity to live in the country up a rough track. I think wheelie bins are ugly and vile, but I suppose if you recycle everything there will not be much to put in it.

Wheelie bins are 'ugly' yes, and we have three of them! Brown is for the garden rubbish which we don't either shred or compost ourselves, so would include perennial weeds, very thick woody stuff and anything we don't want to use. Green is for recycling plastics, paper etc. And black for the normal household rubbish. As yet there is no collection for recyclable glass, though it has been mooted several times. We just take ours, what little we have, to the bottle bank anyway when we go shopping, so it's no hardship. I know lots of people buy these covers you can put over the wheelie bin, but there is no disguising what it is at the end of the day. We also have a beautiful village here in Norfolk where there has been much heated discussion between inhabitants and local council, where the road is extremely narrow, it is a very popular village all year round being close, and on the main road to, a major bird reserve. Twisty lanes, pedestrians to watch out for, and wheelie bins too. Also many of the houses are very old terraced cottages, with no back garden, and only limited space at the front, so as happens with such properties in my own village, these bins are stuck in your front garden, all the time. Not a pretty sight, though there have been some inventive ways of hiding them! To my mind, they are a necessary evil.. but more important than the looks or where you have to put them is the story about councils putting special little cameras inside to look at your rubbish!!

We hide ours in the garage, which keeps it out of the sun. We have a fortnightly collection, being in a rural area, so no foodscraps or "smellies" go in it. We have a worm bin to put all our veggie scraps in so the bin is mainly paper and tins, all washed out. We do not have a recycling system as yet. Even with a bi weekly collection our huge bin is less than half full and OH has to wheel it a kilometre down our bumpy gravel road to the main road for collection. Sometimes I wonder why we even bother.

Hi, ok, we're in a total different country. Our bins must be put out once a week with just normal househould (kitchen) waste. Also once a week we have the recycle lorrie doing it's round to collect all bottles, tins, paper, plastic. All of the this recycled stuff we have to put in recycled plastic bags, and they sort it out. I just wash the milk bottles and tins before placing it in the plastic bag.

we have a square box which is easily hid behind the wall.for bottles and tins. a blue bag for paper.this is collected fortnightly.i think recycling is very important.these wheely bins are going to take some getting used to.in france every bit of packaging of food and any other products.is put in yellow bags for recycling. in a town near me every so often they have the wheely bin races. honest its a big competition. i will have to go next time.bet its a laugh.

We do have a recyling bin aswell as the ordinary bin. We've had it for three years and the bin men have emptied it twice in that time.
Doesn't matter how many times you ring the council they're useless.
We take all aour recyclables to the recycling centre.
Makes me wonder what I pay council tax for.

We went to a seaside town about 70 km away yesterday, and on our way back I noticed a wheely bin painted with in a lovely seaside design, sea in the background, beach in front, shells sticking out of the sand, a little bucket and spade and way back in the sea a whale jumping out of the water. It looked so lovely and I thought what a good idea. It suits the town, and the bin is not so obvious. Quite an arty bin I should say! I actually should've taken a pic.....xxxx

what a good idea.we should paint wall flowers on ours.it stands in front of a wall all week.if it had honeysuckle or something painted on it would look gr8.some-one could paint them as a business.
