View Full Version : Rewriting History
If you had the chance to go back to a point in your life and do something differently, would you change anything?
I think, with hindsight there are a million things I would do differently, especially with my university placement. I would also have done things very differently with an ex - he was such a nice boy and I wish I had a chance to tell him that!
It's taken me so long to work out a vague career path for myself, I wish I had stuck with something earlier on in my life and worked harder at it. I could have tried harder at being an actress or journo...something like that!

Hi Oola, I would pratice my piano more intensively in the hope of becoming a music teacher, I would've loved to conduct a choir (childrens choir). I would've loved to be part of a huge choir (was part of a choir, but not as large). Sometimes things work out differently or you just don't realise early enough in life as to what you really want to do. You are still quite young, add wings to your dreams and go for it. :)

I would like to have become a doctor, but somehow,it just wasn't to be;I guess if I had worked even harder at school,I might have made the grade but instead,I contented myself with working most of my working life either in hospitals,or for consultants, and latterly in the pharmaceutical side of it,and all of it was interesting.
I agree with Crocus Oola, you are still young enough to fulfill your dreams.

Oola don't be another one that says "If only" grasp this life with both hands and go for whatever will make you happiest but don't make do with anything second best.X

I agree with the others, Oola, you still have just about all of your life ahead of you. I you can afford to, what about trying out a couple of months work experience in the 'placement' of your dreams? If you really like it then you could look into what it would take to get you there permanantly.
I have loved my work in adult education and community development, but if I could turn back time I would have stuck with music and learnt to play the clarinet so that I could have had a career in an orchestra or jazz band.
I also wouldn't have wasted time on so many male partners. When I was young I was quite unconfident and believed that I needed male approval all the time, so ended up with quite a few unsuitable boyfriends who mainly just gave me a headache!

Well, I have always wanted to nurse and eventually fulfilled my dream. But my first dream was to be an army nurse. All my family had served in the Forces, including all the women. My Mom was in the Canadian army for eight years, likewise all my Aunties. I didnt have enough school qualifications at the time, so did not write for an application form. Years later at Uni in my second year, as a student I was in an operating theatre and got talking to the senior nurse, who had been an army nurse. I shared with her my regret. She looked surprised and told me, that, she also had left school at 15 but took the entrance exam in the army nursing school. You could have done that!! she exclaimed.....oh well. But through this experience I have been able to encourage my kids to reach for their dreams, and for the most part they have. So nothing is ever lost.

No I wouldn't change a thing, because all the things that happened to me have led me to where I am now, made me the person I am today, and I am perfectly happy with the inner me. The physical aspect, the health aspect.. well, that's another matter, but if I weren't the person I am, then it would be harder to cope I think. Life is too short for regrets, don't you think? Why waste time on imponderables, just love the life you have, live the life you have.

I regret not letting my parents know I loved them before it was too late; I regret losing my mother before I was mature enough to let her know I appreciated everything she had done for me, so yes I would alter that. As for ambition, career, marriage etc.. no I wouldn't change a thing. My life has made me who I am, and I like that person. Fame and money does not necessarily bring happiness it is inner contentment that does that. Oola you seem very sensible and you are still young, I am sure you will achieve whatever you put your mind to, I wish for you a very happy life.
